iPhone already comes with high level of  security that is they have default encryption. a passcode is enough to secure your iPhone. But if you want to encrypt your passcode then move to settings and open password (passcode).

Here is a little advise for you: Try building a stronger password that contains more than 4 digits. You can also check out this article for further enlightenment  encryption app for iPhone

It all seems messed up with iPhone because you get to dig deeper in settings to activate encryption. iPhone is already the most secure mobile device today, after activating the encryption you will require the encryption app for iPhone to encrypt your Internet data as well.

You don’t worry about it, because all the apple products comes with their own content encryption, so you don’t need to worry about it. but if you are curios about your phone security then you should encrypt your passcode.

Here are the simple method you can tie your password in iPhone IOS 4-iOS 7

  1. Go to General Settings
  2. Choosing Password (iToch & passcode)

Here is the tip:

If you choose a passcode that’s all-numeric, you will still get a numeric keypad when you need to unlock your phone, which may be easier than typing a set of letters and symbols on a tiny virtual keyboard. You should still try to keep your passcode long even though Apple’s hardware is designed to slow down password-cracking tools. Try creating a passcode that is more than 6 digits.https://ssd.eff.org/en/module/how-encrypt-your-iphone

For IOS 8 – 9:

For this version you would have your own (prompts to create a passcode) in the setting app. you just need to switch  “required passcode” to “Immediately”, so that it will never unlocked when you are using it. make sure your passcode longer than 4 digits.

There are different levels of encrypting a device. First and the foremost is to enable security on your devices such as enabling a passcode system in your device to prevent unauthorized access. Second most is to protect your identity which you can by using a VPN encryption app. And rest of the security depends on your usage of device. You can install an Antivirus, applications such as “vault” to further drill down on your iPhone security.
